Question:  ‘Don’t windfarms reduce house prices?’

Npower says:
‘There is some evidence to suggest that property prices in Dunbar may have been positively affected by the Crystal Rig Development.’

EVAG says:
Npower haven't answered their own question!
Dunbar, being about six miles from the development and hidden behind hills, is not impacted visually or by noise.  The increase in property prices is, in fact, because the dualling of the A1 has made Dunbar an attractive commute in view of the high prices in Edinburgh and its environs.

Judge Michael Buckley awarded £15,000 damages to a couple who had bought a house in the Lake Districtwithout being told by the sellers that a windfarm was going to be built nearby.  He said, 'The effect is significant and it has a significant effect on the property.'
 
A RICS survey of 2004 found that 60 per cent of surveyors who deal with homes near windfarms said the turbines 'decrease the value of residential properties'.
 
Denmark's Copenhagen Post of 30 July 2007 states that the Danish government is drafting a proposal to compensate for lost property values.
